4 Sun 4 Step Koyosegi Kumiki

4 Sun 4 Step Koyosegi Kumiki

4 Sun 4 Step Koyosegi Kumiki This hand-crafted box opens in 4 steps, but unlike a traditional Japanese puzzle box, this one can be completely disassembled and then reassembled!  Finished in a beautiful koyosegi pattern.  In Japanese the word kumiki means “joining wood together” and refers to varieties of wood craft.  The “sun” in the name is a Japanese form of measurement.  Each “sun” is approximately 3 centimetres in box length.  The more steps in the name – the harder it is to open the box.  The last part of the title is the name of the pattern displayed on the box. Dimensions: Approx. 11.7 cm x 7.8 cm x 5.4 cm / 4.6 in x 3.1 in x 2.1 inSolution in included.

The simplicity of jigsaw puzzles is deceptive. While the concept is very straightforward – find the pieces and fix them together – there is a surprising level of mental activity required to carry out the steps needed to complete a puzzle. Psychological studies have identified a number of thought processes that are required to undertake what is in fact a complex process of identifying shapes and images and relating them to an overall pattern. More importantly, solving jigsaw puzzles is a great work out for the brain and can actually have therapeutic benefits.
