Ghost of the North

Ghost of the North

Ghost of the North Robert Bateman’s Ghost of the North is of a great gray owl sitting on an aspen tree and it makes for a very challenging 1000 piece puzzle.  “The great gray owl is truly a ghost of the north. It is fleeting and silent. It seems to be the largest of the owls, but it is mostly feathers and weighs much less than the great horned owl. Its wing feathers have downy edges like other owls, making its flight totally silent. The colors are subdued, and the patterns provide excellent camouflage. I wanted to portray this ghostliness in the painting. This is why I gave everything a flat and hazy look. the colors are restrained, and the owl blends perfectly with the tree. The tree is an aspen, one of the typical species of the owl’s habitat in the boreal forest.”  –Robert Bateman Each and every puzzle from Cobble Hill is crafted to museum-quality standards, using the finest inks and varnishes.  Each puzzle features linen textured paper and premium grade blue board, and uses 100% recycled chipboard.  The pieces are random-shaped, which means our puzzles are more interesting to assemble because no two pieces are alike.  1000 PiecesBonus Poster Included.Finished size: Approx. 68 cm x 49 cm / 27 in x 19 inArt by: Robert BatemanMade in the USA by: Cobble Hill Puzzle Company

The first thing you see when looking at any puzzle is the photo or illustration of the completed puzzle. On choosing, remember that the image should have some educational value but also be something the child can relate to. If the image is familiar to the child or fulfills the educational objective (like learning colours or naming objects), the experience of completing the puzzle will be all the more enjoyable, satisfying and productive. The image should be easily recognizable so the child can identify it as something they see around them in their everyday life. It should also have distinguishable features to help them decide where to put the piece so that it ends up in the right place.
