Identtrick

Identtrick Try this challenging new puzzle made by Tomas Lindén that was his exchange puzzle for the IPP (International Puzzle Party), London 2014. The goal is to create a shape of mirrored symmetry.  The solution will have two mirrored identical halves, one dark and one light. The solved state will include space in between the pieces.  Use your imagination to draw a line down the centre of your solved shape to create the symmetrical dark and light halves.  All pieces lay flat and not on top of eachother.  There are two (known) solutions. Design by Vesa Timonen.

The simplicity of the puzzles is misleading. Although the concept is quite simple – finding the pieces and repairing them together – an amazing level of mental activity is required to complete the necessary steps to complete a puzzle. Psychological studies have identified a number of thought processes that are necessary to achieve what is in fact a complex process of identifying shapes and images and relating them to a general pattern. More importantly, solving puzzles is great work for the brain and can have therapeutic benefits.
