Schlangen Wrfel

Schlangen Wrfel This puzzle is actually just one long piece. The individual cubies are connected by strings that allow the pieces to rotate relative to each other. Some pieces are connected in sequence, while others are connected at 90-degree angles to each other. The objective is to open up the snake arrangement, then return it to the checkerboard cube shape as shown. Made in wood and string by Jean-Claude Constantin. Jean-Claude Constantin lives in Germany, where he designs and manufactures many different wood and metal puzzles, as well as magic tricks.

Trying to see how pieces fit and re-assessing where they might go when they don’t fit is a good exercise in checking and re-evaluating choices. Each piece can only go in to one place so there is none of the compromising and trading-off that takes place in so many other aspects of modern life. This forces the player to constantly re-evaluate their decisions, and teaches patience with the process as it is an integral part of the game.
