Wooden Fractal Tray Puzzle – Terdragon Curve

Wooden Fractal Tray Puzzle - Terdragon Curve

Wooden Fractal Tray Puzzle – Terdragon Curve Please note that wood colors vary! This original design is brought to you by Martin Raynsford and was originally funded through a Kickstarter campaign. There are several fiendishly complicated tray puzzles based upon space filling fractal curves. Fractal curves feature a pattern that is a single line that crosses all of the two dimensional space without ever repeating. The puzzles follow these simple rules to break the line into multiple pieces that are almost identical but are actually unique. The pieces are so similar in style that once they are placed into the puzzle it is hard to see where the pieces are. The puzzles can be tricky to solve even if you have the solution on hand. Made from a high quality birch laser plywood sheet, the natural look of the wood will show natural colour variations. The material is sanded and oiled to create a superior finish.  Some of the puzzles have been dyed with wood dye.  The name of the puzzle is displayed on the front, while the designer is displayed on the back.

Trying to see how pieces fit and re-assessing where they might go when they don’t fit is a good exercise in checking and re-evaluating choices. Each piece can only go in to one place so there is none of the compromising and trading-off that takes place in so many other aspects of modern life. This forces the player to constantly re-evaluate their decisions, and teaches patience with the process as it is an integral part of the game.
